Clean Storm 20220924, Chevy Bolt EV Converter Travel Box Level 2 20A 120V To 240V 14-50R Adapter

Description

The Clean Storm 20220924 Dual 120V to 240V Reverse Converter Travel Box transforms two separate 120-volt outlets into a single 240-volt NEMA 14-50R receptacle, providing up to 20 amps (4800 watts) of single-phase power for Level 2 EV charging and high-draw equipment. Engineered for ultimate field mobility, this power supply adapter features dual 25-foot 12-3 power cords with built-in 20-amp circuit breakers and an integrated phase-matching tester. To operate, simply plug into two separate 120V outlets on opposing circuit phases and press the momentary test button—the bright green confirmation indicator confirms 220–240V output readiness. Internal shock-prevention technology ensures the open male plug remains electrically isolated until both cords are fully engaged. Designed for Chevy Bolt EV/EUV, Tesla, and universal EVSE travel setups, it also powers 240V pressure washers, vapor steam cleaners, welders, and plasma cutters whenever dedicated 240V receptacles are unavailable.

Features

• Converts dual standard 120V wall outlets into a 240V single-phase NEMA 14-50R receptacle supplying up to 20A / 4800W continuous output.
• Integrated green LED voltage and phase confirmation system validates proper 220–240V circuit bridging prior to connecting equipment load.
• Electrical shock-isolation design keeps disconnected male plug contacts dead until both cords achieve active electrical connection.
• Dual heavy-duty 25-foot 12-3 AWG power extension cords provide 50 feet of reach to connect out-of-phase wall outlets across job sites.
• Triple 20-amp push-button circuit breakers offer integral overcurrent protection for attached charging cables and machinery.
• Compact 6" x 6" x 4" high-impact composite enclosure featuring non-marring rubber stability feet for trunk transport and field service deployment.

Applications

• Portable Level 2 EV charging for Chevy Bolt EV, Bolt EUV, Volt, Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Silverado EV, and Tesla Model 3/Y/S/X (via 14-50 EVSE).
• Universal EV charger power conversion for Ford Lightning/Mustang Mach-E, Rivian R1T/R1S, Hyundai Ioniq 5/6, Kia EV6/EV9, and Nissan Leaf.
• Powering commercial 240V carpet extractors, high-pressure washers, vapor steam cleaners, and restoration drying equipment on job sites.
• Field operation of compact 240V MIG/TIG welders, plasma cutters, and metal fabrication machinery in residential garages.

Tips and Additional Information

Phase Matching Fundamentals: Residential 120/240V electrical panels split incoming power into two distinct 120V legs (phases). To produce 240 volts, the two input cords must be plugged into outlets sourced from opposite hot legs in your breaker box. If plugging into two outlets yields no green light when depressing the momentary test button, relocate one cord to an outlet powered by a different circuit breaker panel row.

GFCI & AFCI Outlet Notice: This reverse converter box is incompatible with GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) or AFCI wall outlets. The current balancing across two separate neutral/ground legs will trip standard GFCI outlets instantly. Always connect to standard non-GFCI wall receptacles.

Amperage Management for EV Charging: When using adjustable EVSE portable chargers or onboard car charging menus (such as Tesla onboard charging screens), manually dial the maximum charge rate to 16 Amps at 240V (or 80% of circuit rating). Never exceed 20A continuous draw. Running at 16A @ 240V delivers 3.84 kW charging speed—100% faster than standard 120V 16A factory trickle chargers.

Pre-Use Safety Check: Test wall outlet polarity using a standard 3-wire receptacle tester prior to initial connection to confirm correct building wiring to code.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why does the green voltage indicator light fail to turn on when both cords are plugged in?

A: The green light indicates that both power cords are connected to two separate 120V legs on opposing electrical phases. If the light does not illuminate when pressing the test button, both selected outlets are residing on the same 120V phase leg. Unplug one cord and move it to an outlet controlled by a different circuit breaker position on the main electrical panel.

Q: Can I plug this converter box into standard GFCI garage or bathroom outlets?

A: No. GFCI and LDCI outlets detect the neutral current vector across the dual-leg arrangement as a ground fault and will trip instantly. Use standard, non-GFCI 120V receptacles or temporarily replace a GFCI receptacle with a standard outlet when operating this unit.

Q: What happens if I plug the unit into 15-amp rated 120V wall outlets instead of 20-amp outlets?

A: The unit will operate properly, but maximum current capacity is limited to the lowest-rated branch circuit. On dual 15A circuits, limit connected equipment or adjust your EV charger draw to 12A–15A maximum @ 240V to prevent tripping wall panel breakers.

Q: Is there a hazard of electrical shock from the exposed prongs of the second cord if only one cord is plugged in?

A: No. The unit features built-in internal electrical isolation circuitry. The open male plug remains completely de-energized until both cords are plugged into live outlets and an out-of-phase 240V bridge is established.

Customer Reviews & Testimonials

"I primarily purchased the converter box solely for charging my Tesla vehicle when I find myself visiting friends or family who do not have a 220v outlet I can use. The converter purchased from your website has been extremely convenient—I simply keep it in my trunk so I always have it when I need it. The cords are extremely long, and the charge time is significantly shorter than a regular 110v outlet. I would definitely recommend this product to others. Thanks!"

"I use this to power my portable EVSE with a 32 amp adjustable EV car charging cable. I recently got an electric Genesis GV60 and picked up the power joiner to hold me over until the electrician could install a 14-50R. Now I keep it in the car in case I need to charge while at my girlfriend's or visiting friends or family. Product works great once you find a matching pair of sockets. I've used it on 15 and 20 amp circuits and have had no issues."
