What Does the Humidistat Sensor Do?

The humidistat sensor samples the air entering or surrounding the dehumidifier and reports the relative-humidity level to the machine’s electronic control system. This information may be used to display the current humidity level, control automatic operation, and determine when the desired humidity setting has been reached.

This is different from the ambient-temperature sensor and the refrigeration-coil temperature sensor. Each sensor performs a separate function and may use a different part number, connector, cable, or mounting location.

Possible Symptoms of a Failed Humidity Sensor

• Displayed relative-humidity reading is inaccurate or unrealistic
• Humidity reading remains fixed and does not change
• Dehumidifier shuts off before the room reaches the selected humidity level
• Machine continues operating after the humidity set point has been reached
• Automatic or humidistat-controlled mode does not operate correctly
• Control panel displays a humidity-sensor fault or error
• Sensor board, connector, cable, or wiring is visibly damaged

Installation Guidelines

1. Unplug the dehumidifier before removing any cabinet panels.
2. Photograph the original sensor location, connectors, and cable routing.
3. Disconnect the existing sensor without pulling directly on the wires.
4. Inspect the adjoining harness and control-board connection for corrosion or damage.
5. Install the replacement sensor in the same position and orientation as the original.
6. Route the cable away from fan blades, sharp sheet metal, hot tubing, and moving components.
7. Reconnect all plugs securely before reinstalling the cabinet panels.
8. Restore power and compare the displayed humidity with a known humidity meter when possible.
