National Pipe Straight Mechanical (NPSM) has a straight thread, unlike NPT, which is tapered. NPSM is sometimes used for fluid power systems and male NPTF pipes will seal with an NPSM female pipe. However, a male NPT pipe will not fit in a female NPSM pipe

This part is used on Shurflo NPSM threads even though the factory states it is pipe.

These are the best types of fittings if you have a SHURflow pump. Holds to 70 PSI, with no leaks, after being tightened finger tight, plus one flat on the nut. Genuine SHURflo fittings, make for an easy seal with SHURflo pumps, because instead of just sealing on the threads, it has a flare or 'bulge' on the inside, that seals with a recess on the pump housing itself. It allows for good sealing, even with less than perfect alignment, without having to be cranked very tight, which is a good thing, as my pump housing is plastic.
